Inviting Red Sea countries to take measures preventing vessels’ harmful emissions

The secretary general of the Red Sea regional authority for protecting the Red sea and Aden gulf , Dr. Zeiad Abu Gharara has declared that more than 90% of the global trade cargoes are transported through the sea, declaring that such   vessels’ emissions that are harmful to the environment constitutes about 3%  and that such vessels are to take measures to reduce such emissions of harmful  gases as stated in the sixth appendix of MARPOL which has entered into force last January, and they are legally abiding measures according to a specified time schedule to be applicable to vessels. Thus the authority is seeking to make countries of red sea and Aden gulf that are members, aware of such procedures and of ways of its implementation and consequently being capable of applying global commitments in this respect.
