Transport minister meets with Panama ambassador in Cairo

Dr. Hesham Arafat, transport minister has received Panama’s ambassador in Cairo, Thomas Gewardia , to debate means of cooperation between the two sides in the field of maritime transport. The meeting was attended by maritime transport minister’s consultants. 

 Panama’s proposal has been discussed during the meeting, concerning joint cooperation convention in the field of maritime transport that includes admitting article 1/15of STCW convention and also probability of cooperation in exchanging experiences in: vessels’ registration, developing and managing ports, training and cooperation in the field of establishing and developing logistic centers.

 Panama’s ambassador reviewed licensing procedures and flying the flag of Panama on the vessels; where there exists 6 thousand vessels flying Panama flag; participating in international trade traffic increase.

 Transport minister has assured on the necessity of benefitting from Panama experience in this field to facilitate vessels’ registering procedures to fly the Egyptian flag; declaring that there is a clear strategic plan to develop maritime transport system and Egyptian ports; where the minister has invited Panama’s ambassador to visit Alexandria port to follow up development works of upgrading the port.

 Both sides have agreed upon the establishment of a special workshop in the field of maritime transport where plans are to be submitted for the development of maritime transport system in Egypt and means of benefitting from Panama’s experience in this field.
